This is a four-story residential building with an underground parking level and a terrace, situated in a dense suburb of Athens. The main volume floats over a pilotis allowing for an open connection between the street and the garden at the back of the plot. The entrance to the building is approached through a generous plateau of steps and planted intermediate levels creating a gradual transition between public and private spaces.
Four two-story apartments of two types are stacked in pairs symmetrically to the central axis of the building. Type A twin apartments occupy the 1st floor with living areas and 2nd floor with bedrooms. Type B apartments are configured in a reversed arrangement with the bedrooms on the 3rd floor and living areas on the 4th floor to provide direct access to the private roof terraces.
A metal grid structure covers the entire facade to organize the apertures and transforms into a frame canopy over the roof. Its central part, where all the interior staircases are located, becomes denser to filter the western light. The balconies emerge through the grid system, creating a unified geometric composition. The arrangement of the openings on the rear facade also follows an underlying grid. The rigid composition of the main volume expresses the internal structure of the apartments and functions as an interactive screen to the city. In contrast the void space on the entrance level is a fluid space following the movement flows.
